The Jesus Maria Ranch boasts a captivating history that stretches back to the late 1800s.
Nestled approximately 17 miles south of Hebbronville, Texas, the historic Jesus Maria Ranch beckons you to step into a time capsule brimming with charm in every direction. Renowned author John Houghton Allen penned a Texas classic that captures the essence of life on this ranch during the turn of the century. The old-timers reminisce about basking on the balconies, gazing at cattle stretching endlessly to the horizon. Notably, Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders once graced the polo arena that stood upon the Jesus Maria, as did the legendary Pancho Villa on the Wild Horse Desert.
The original structures, built in the late 1800s early 1900s, still stand proudly, lovingly revitalized by the current stewards, “Toby” Toribio Cantu and his wife, Alyssa Cantu. The main living quarters, an impressive 10,000 square feet of historical architecture, artfully melds hacienda and chateau styles, inspired by the extensive travels of the original owners throughout Europe. Adding to this tapestry of history, the ranchers’ quarters and stables encompass an additional 4,000 square feet that transport visitors back in time. Today, the Jesus Maria Ranch runs a modest cattle operation and, for the first time, warmly welcomes guest hunters to partake in an authentic low-fence South Texas hunting experience.
In the present day, the ranch is lovingly owned and operated by the Cantu family. Toby and Alyssa Cantu share their lives with three radiant children: Toribella Amelia, Toribio Alberto (affectionately known as TOBY), and Theodoro Alexander (affectionately known as TEDDY) Cantu. With unwavering dedication, the Cantu family has devoted their hearts to the restoration of this enchanting and historical ranch. The Jesus Maria Ranch has blossomed into their cherished passion, as they take immense pride in crafting an unforgettable atmosphere and experience for all who grace their grounds.
