Florence, the only daughter of Josephine Houghton Allen and Wilbur P. Allen, was also the sole granddaughter of John Houghton, the original steward of the illustrious Jesus Maria Ranch.
A resplendent singer and dancer, she graced the halls of the esteemed Ogontz School for Girls in Philadelphia from 1921 to 1924, a legacy now embraced by Penn State University. In the summer of 1923, she honed her vocal talents at a school in Lake George, NY. The following year, she continued her studies at The Finch School in New York before gracing The Spence School with her presence.
In a dazzling chapter of her life, she charmed the seas aboard the private yacht of King Alfonso, the King of Spain, where she mingled with regal dignitaries at the Court of St. James in 1926, spending over a month amidst the splendor of Europe. Upon her return to the land of her roots, she enrolled at the University of Texas in the fall semester of 1926. As a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, she was not just a socialite; she mesmerized audiences with her solos, enchanting friends at the Country Club, as well as at grand balls and various social soirees.
